Does it matter which subject you study at university?

If you’ve not got anything in particular in mind, it’s probably best to go with something that interests YOU.

University level study is hard and unless you have a keen interest in the subject you’ll become one of those that falls by the wayside.

These days universities have hundreds of courses on offer and great prospectuses telling you a little bit about all of them. Rather than just get a specific prospectus, your best bet is to get a general one and leaf through it all as you’ll find lots of subjects in there that you never even heard of but which might well interest you a lot.

Would it really matter if the world got hotter?

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

There’s lots of debate about climate change these days and with that groups of people convinced that it isn’t happening, others convinced that it is and we need to do something now, plus many who think it’s happening but that we can’t do anything about it.

Throwing all that to one side for the moment, would it really matter if the world was a few degrees warmer than it is now?

That couple of extra degrees doesn’t sound very much, does it? It isn’t a whole lot to be sure but that difference can affect climate and geography massively. For one thing, a little bit of extra melting of the ice caps means a whole lot of extra water in the oceans which in turn means that the sea level will rise.

That one simple thing means that we’d need extra flood defenses and, in some cases, people would simply have to move as the sea started to engulf the land.
