Is there an alternative to using an estate agent to sell a house?

Not so long ago that answer was “no” but not any longer.

These days you can advertise your property using adwords (expensive) or make use of one of a number of free property listings sites such as Great Property Direct.

Do the free sites work? It’s early days for them so it’s difficult to say how effective they will prove to be but already some sales have gone through them and each one will have saved the owners thousands in commission to the estate agent so it certainly seems worth spending 15 minutes to create an advert.

Is the housing marketing moving at all?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

One of the more confusing aspects of the housing slowdown is that even real bargains aren’t being picked up.

Take, for example, this excellently priced inn. Ordinarily the price for this one would be near the million euro mark yet now it’s listed for under €800k thus offering you something like a 20% or 30% discount to what would ordinarily be the “real” price.

This is definitely the time to be considering properties as these levels will surely rise quickly once it looks like things are beginning to return to normal
