Separation of the operating units of a company

Companies sometimes have incredibly optimistic opinions of the knowledge of their customers concerning their organisation, don’t they?

Why should you be expected to know anything about how a company is organised when your only interaction with them is at the point of buying goods or services? It’s really crazy for them to assume that you know anything other than at best one phone number, e-mail address or website.

We’re currently in the crazy position of having received a renewal notice from our insurance company yet the car which it relates to was destroyed by them several months ago and indeed the original accident is even noted on the renewal reminder! So we have here a situation where the renewal goes out automatically (OK, that’s to be expected) yet it clearly indicates that the car to which it refers is no more!

I’d thought that such things were confined to the past, but obviously I was wrong!
